The annual World Tin Bath Races has something for everyone. Since the kids
cannot compete in the races, they are offered the opportunity to check out
the Castletown harbour waters in another way. The Rope Drop sends younger
members of the public flying through the air from one side of the harbour
wall. Their goal is to let go at just the right moment and fall into the
centre of a inflated tube marked with coloured balloons. It might seem like
an easy task till you try it. Some find defeat by over shooting the target
so disappointing they will not let go and have to pried off by men from a
boat. A truly wild and wet experience not for those up to the challenge.
The races are connected with the Castletown Ale Drinkers Society, who are
dedicated to raising money for local charities. The money raised from the
small entry fee to the World Tin Bath Championship is donated to a local
charity.
